Magna-Power Electronics Releases 24-Pulse and 48-Pulse Harmonic Neutralizers

Press Release, June 6, 2013

Magna-Power Electronics, a leader in high power programmable DC power supplies, released new 24-pulse and 48-pulse harmonic neutralizers, companion products for the MT Series: 100 kW to 2000 kW+. The new models create 24-pulse or 48-pulse waveforms when paired with equally rated MT Series products, enabling acceptable total harmonic distortion levels, while leveraging the performance advantages of the company’s high-frequency switched-mode programmable DC power supplies.

Magna-Power Electronics harmonic neutralizers eliminate families of harmonic components by multiplying the number of input phases with specially wound magnetic components. As the company continues to push its products into the multi-megawatts, new applications have emerged demanding even lower harmonic distortion. The new HN500-24 produces 24-pulse waveforms for 500 kW systems containing two 250 kW MT Series modules. The new HN1000-48 produces 48-pulse waveforms for 1000 kW systems containing four 250 kW MT Series modules.

Harmonic sensitive applications, such as those where energy is recycled, will yield the most benefit from the new harmonic neutralizers. These autotransformers, in combination with equally loaded, high-power DC power supplies, offer a cost-effective solution to maintaining power quality at acceptable levels. In addition to extremely low harmonic content, the overall power system will benefit from the switch-mode high-frequency design’s fast transient response, high power factor and efficiency, and low output ripple and noise.

The new harmonic neutralizers are now available, exclusively for pairing with Magna-Power Electronics MT Series products. All products are designed and manufactured in the Flemington, NJ USA.
